Board of Directors
The Board is the highest policy and decision making body in the company and will give executive management directions on the implementation of the set policies and major corporate decisions through the managing director. The managing director, as secretary to the board and chief executive officer leading the operations team forms the link between the board and executive management.
The Ushindi Commercial Bank Board of Directors currently has 11 members, 9 of whom are Kenyan Citizens. They include:
The founding director and chief executive officer , Revd Lukas Njenga has wealth of experience in the ICT, SME, regeneration, reconciliation Micro-finance and community development sectors which he has transformed into the current Ushindi Commercial bank integrated business model. The integrated model seeks to balance between the two objectives of outreach to as many customers as possible and commercially sustain the business.
The C.E.O is a highly qualified community development expert with special skills in poverty reduction through proven partnership strategies that empower the poor communities to address their financial and social Challenges. Rev Njenga has worked in about 7 different countries ranging from Africa, Europe and South East Asia in cooperative development, micro finance development, SME development, HIV/AIDS control and integrated Community development especially working with various Kenyan churches and faith based organizations.
Rev Njenga is currently a chairman of eight successful companies all with social enterprise agenda looking at transforming communities and changing lives.
He was trained as a theologian in St Paul’s Theological College, and then perused Specialized Ministerial formation Training in Geneva Switzerland. He obtained BTh. (Hons) in The University of Natal and did Masters Degree in same University. During his six years in South Africa he served the community in various capacities including the three Board directorships which all revolved around capacity building and economic empowerment of the South African Community. He was the founding C.E.O of two organizations and a consultancy business and community charitable project. Rev Lukas Njenga has worked as the C.E.O of Ephraim post harvest consultancy in South Africa, which was responsible for major community, based economic forums that were involved in the wealth transfer between the powerful oppressive regimes in South Africa to the new rainbow nation. He mobilized local resources and facilitated major transformation in some of the most notorious townships of Kwazulu Natal. He was actively involved in the Activities of PACSA the equivalent of NCCK in Kenya. He has worked in partnership with National Christian council of Churches Small scale Business enterprises which have now become the leader of the Micro Finance industry in Kenya, He is currently the C.E.O of Heart for the City an International Christian Charity based in Scotland and working with over ten nations in the world with a major mandate of addressing the Scourge of Poverty. He is also the Anglican Chaplain of the Glasgow Caledonia n University, Advisor to the Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal church of Scotland on African matters, Board Member of the Priority Strategy group of the Church of Scotland working with the poorest communities in Scotland, Chairman of Kingdom resorts in the Bahamas a Christian Vocational Club that gives great holidays to Christians, Chairman of Cornerstone International Ltd in the U.K , Chairman of Faith Initiative Group of companies in Kenya among other board directorships.
